Our Identity

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations..."

-Matthew 28:19

We believe in one eternally existent, infinite God, Sovereign Creator and Sustainer of the universe; that He only is God, holy in nature, attributes, and purpose. The Bible reveals His existence from the very beginning (Genesis 1:1). What the Bible also does is reveal the nature, character, and work of God. We believe that God is revealed to us in the Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Through God’s ultimate love He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice for all mankind. God became incarnate-God came in human form to us (John 1:14). The Son of God became the Son of Man and is therefore the “bridge” between God and man (John 14:6; 1 Timothy 2:5). It is only through the Son that we can have forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1:7), reconciliation with God (John 15:15; Romans 5:10), and eternal salvation (2 Timothy 2:10).

So, to really know who God is, all we have to do is look at Jesus.

The church is the community that confesses Jesus Christ as Lord, the covenant people of God made new in Christ, the Body of Christ called together by the Holy Spirit through the Word.

We believe God calls the Church to express its life in unity and fellowship; in worship through the preaching of the Word, observance of the sacraments, and ministry in His name; by obedience to Christ, holy living, and mutual accountability.

The Church is a historical reality that organizes itself in local congregations and as a universal body. God calls the Church to live under His rule in anticipation of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Sin is disobedience towards God, and we believe that every person has experienced this. When we sin we separate ourselves from God and cause many problems in this lifetime as well.

When we repent we acknowledge that we’re wrong, we’re broken, and we need help. We realize that only Jesus Christ can save us from our sin.

By God’s grace we can be saved and restored into relation with Him.

Jesus is coming back

The rapture and the second coming of Christ are often confused. Sometimes it is difficult to determine whether a scripture verse is referring to the rapture or the second coming. However, in studying end-times Bible prophecy, it is very important to differentiate the two.

The rapture is when Jesus Christ returns to remove the church (believers in Christ) from the earth. The rapture is best described in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-16 and 1 Corinthians 15:50-54. Believers who have died will have their bodies resurrected and, along with believers who are still living, will meet the Lord in the air. This will all occur in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye. The rapture is imminent; it could take place at any moment. (Titus 2:13, 1 Thes. 4:13-16, 1 Cor. 15:50-54)

The second coming is when Jesus returns to defeat the Antichrist, destroy evil, and establish His millennial kingdom. The second coming is described in Revelation 19:11-16. The second coming includes the removal of unbelievers as an act of judgment. (Matt. 24:40-41)

While we don't know when Jesus is coming back, we can be sure that God's plan will come to completion. In the meantime, we love as Jesus loves, serve as Jesus serves, and follow Him.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Rescue Church is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ genuinely, so that hearts of unbelievers would come to a relationship with Him, and that believers would be discipled in the footprints of Christ.

As the body of Christ we want to be the hands and feet of Jesus serving Sumner and the surrounding cities.

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

-Matthew 28:19-20

We want to accomplish the Great Commission by providing a Sunday morning service that concentrates on the love of God through His Son Jesus Christ. We believe through the preaching of the Word, that the Holy Spirit of God convicts the hearts of men and women.
