Cory married the love of his life, Kelsey, in July of 2008 and in May of 2012 they had their first child, Carlee Joy, followed by Madeline (Madi) Mae in April 2014, and Emma Kay in April of 2016.
Cory graduated from Northwest Nazarene University in 2006 with a BA in Kinesiology; sports and recreation management. As he came home from college to start putting his degree to work, Cory felt God drawing him to ministry.
In May of 2007 he accepted the youth pastor and worship pastor positions at a Nazarene church in Auburn, Washington. In 2008, Kelsey joined Cory in ministering to the youth of Auburn. Both know how vital children's and youth ministry are in helping to bring up these younger generations to be the men and women of God they were created to be. In 2010, Cory began sensing a new call on his life to go out and plant churches. It was in early 2012 that Cory realized God had been preparing his heart for The Rescue Church and the people of Sumner. So in February of 2013, The Rescue Church was planted.
Both Cory and Kelsey are excited and eagerly waiting to see what God is going to do through The Rescue and the city of Sumner. Please join with Pastor Cory and Kelsey as they pray earnestly over the calling they have received.
Pastor David has been in youth ministry since before his high schooler was born. He loves getting to journey with teenagers as they dream about their future. Doug and his wife, Wendy have been married since May 11, 1991. Together they have raised 5 children – two who were adopted foster children, and they now have 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. In May of 2015 they were honored to have Pastor Cory Daker preside in the reaffirming of their wedding vows for their 25th wedding anniversary. For the mathematicians in the house, we realized it was only 24 years, but the invitations were sent out and the cake was already ordered. Doug is a life-long resident of South King County, growing up in Kent, Washington and attended Kentridge High School. Shortly after graduation, Doug was hired by the Boeing Company in what would become a 40-year career, culminating as a Flightline Quality Assurance Manager. Doug and Wendy have been members of the Church of the Nazarene since 1995 and Doug enjoys serving on the worship team and leading bible study. Doug first sensed God’s call to ministry as a teenager, but life took him in other directions. In 2017 Doug began having earnest discussions with Pastor Cory about ministry and becoming a pastor. Doug is currently completing course work through Northwest Nazarene University with designs on ordination, with the plan to retire from Boeing to go into full time ministry.
Jared leads the music at the Rescue Church in Sumner, and has done so since its 2012 inception. He loves playing the piano, singing to God, and leading others in doing the same. According to Jared, "worship is the expression of love and devotion to whomever - or whatever - someone prioritizes above all else in their life." "As Christians, we choose King Jesus above everything else. Music was created as a way to express this. God most effectively gets through to me through music, and I best communicate my adoration for Him in song as well." As the worship director of The Rescue Church, Jared's mission each week is to lay down the red carpet for the presence of God through music. This is so He might get our attention (Psalm 57:8), show us His love and power (Psalm 59:16), and prompt us to respond with free, authentic worship (Psalm 71:23). God is so good! Jared lives in Bonney Lake with his wife, Nicole, and their three sons, Cooper, Colton, and Carson. Other than spending time with his family and extended family, his hobbies include woodworking projects, golfing, personal finance, cooking/baking, and being a fair-weather fan of the local pro sports teams.
Children's Ministry Director
Carrie grew up in the Sumner Nazarene Church and met Col (Carrie's husband) there in youth group as a teen. When the Sumner Nazarene Church closed, they visited many churches after that but none felt quite like "home" like The Rescue Church did.
Carrie is an elementary music teacher and Col is a sheet metal foreman. They have one daughter and one son. Carrie has a heart for God's Children and lives by the moto "God is faithful! He's got you in the pal of His hand always. There is nothing sweeter than hearing a little one share their love for Jesus!
The Rescue Church is very greateful to have Carrie leading our little ones into a better relationship and understanding of The Almighty God.
Nursery Ministry Director
Ellen has a strong passion for our babies and young children. She strongly believes that introducing children to the Lord at a young age helps them develop a relationship with Christ that will last a lifetime. From the very first Sunday, it was obvious that the church was going to have a significant number of young children. Ellen recognized that need and stepped in to help organize our Nursery. Ellen strives to give each child a safe place to play and most importantly learn about Jesus. We never think that it is too early for our children to hear the word of the Lord. She feels it is important that the first words babies hear is the name of Jesus on our lips. As a mother of four, Ellen loves playing and teaching her children new things, going on fun adventures as a family and spending time with good friends. Ellen and her husband Harold were married in 2009 and have since then grown to a family of six.
